I just got an iPod touch. How can I get the itunes for my nano over to a new computer AND download to touch?
So my old nano's itunes is on an ancient desktop that will stop working any day now. First, how can I get the itunes library from the desktop over to my laptop? Secondly, how do I get that library to sync up with my ipod touch? I'm not really tech savvy so feel free to talk to me like a six year old. Thanks!

So have u already got the musics saved in your desktop?? If yes, then Im sure u shud be able to find them in My Music folder. Just burn that into a CD or any flash drives.
I hope u know how to transfer that in flash driver.
Insert the flash drive or external hard drive
Go to My Music
Right click on the folder called iTunes
Send to "Removable Disk" or whateva your drive name is.
This should send all the music into ur drive u chose.
Then insert that drive into ur new laptop and Copy the iTunes folder and paste it into My Music folder in ur laptop
Install iTunes in ur new laptop.
Connect ur iPod touch
Open iTunes
Click on File - Add folder to Library
Make sure My Music folder is chosen
Now select iTunes folder and click "Select Folder"
This should add all the music files into ur library
Then you can click and drag the music to your new iPod touch as u would normally do.
If you want to transfer music from the iPod nano to your computer, then do this:
Connect your iPod nano to ur laptop
(Vista Operating System) Click Start - My Computer - Organize (from top left corner) - Folder and Search options - Click on tab called "View"
Under the Hidden files and folder section choose "Show hidden files and folders" (below the sixth check box)
Click OK
This will enable to view ur music files stored in your ipod nano.
Double click on iPod from the "My Computer" window
click through all the folders, u should be able to find your music files in one of the folders. Right click on it, copy it and paste it in your My Music folder or jus follow the steps I wrote above.
Hope it helps, goodluck

Don't auto sync because ipod can only sync with one computer itunes or the ipod files will be erased.
itunes blocks this function since itunes is the tool with one way to transfer files from itune to ipod. you must utilize other tools to achieve that. There're couple of tools for transferring the files between ipod and computer (for backup)depends on your demands, e.g transfer only songs/videos, transfer photos etc. You can have a look of below review site, hope it useful.
