Everything is biased against science because of religions 2k+ years of existence. And controlling er... playing a big part in peoples lives.

You are right. Priests are crazy.

If this wasn't a free country, state and religion weren't separate. then someone would probably shoot me for typing this.

Because crazy scientist are more appealing to the public.

Crazy priests give you movies like "Angels and Demons" But without all the guessing and cool crap behind it.

And the fact of Science > Religion.

I think it's probably because people are opposed to change, while scientists represent that change. The majority of our society, and the world's society, is religious. Scientists such as Galileo were persecuted for their discoveries because the religious masses believed it challenged God. It's no surprise that these beliefs still exist, or that they leak into the media.

There's also an attitude that comes from the Bible in which man should not aspire to too much (see the story of Babylon, among others.)

A movie about a mad priest would be pretty boring (2 hours of watching him cornhole

screaming little boys would get a bit monotonous after awhile.)

Now, a mad SCIENTIST has lots of possibilities as an engaging villain; putting together

monsters out of dead body parts, blowing up the world, destabilizing society's "moral

fiber"; think Victor Frankenstein, Dr. Fu Manchu, Moriarty, Professor Richard Dawkins!

(Any one of THESE guys, will make an entertaining story, need more be said..?)

The Following Is My Opinion and Is Not Meant To Insult Or Offend Anyone

Because movies are influenced by society (the cookie cutter that was made to make us all perfect clones), and society is mostly Christian and Catholic, so they would lose views because the christian/catholic people might think they are insulting their religion and they would lose money. Remember in this world, THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND MONEY.

But I personally would pay to see movies with crazy priests and sane scientists cause it makes more sense.

But when you think about it, Paganism and Atheism revolves around science, and we don't all go around saying that Mad Scientists are an insult to us. =P

I think it might have something to do with history. In the past scientists were alchemists - they did not use science very well and were associated with magic etc - they were crazy.

Now science is on a firm ground - but the label sticked in the movies as it makes for a good story.

Because crazy scientists get you all kinds of cool gadgets, whereas crazy priests get you a lot of frothing at the mouth.

But I am getting sick of the 'mad scientist' character - at least a few shows are starting to get the whole 'scientists are normal people' idea.

Because that "craziness" is attributed to the manic intelligence that scientists have.

It's really not an insult to the sciences.

Priests aren't usually genius level intelligent so they aren't as crazy.

Ask Rasputin. Now there was a crazy priest.

Perhaps many of the script writers flunked their high school science classes, so they are just jealous of those nerds who are good at science and math.
