If I speak Swahili and I visit Malawi (say Lilongwe), will I be able to communicate with the locals? Also, how prevalent is English or French?

English and Chichewa are the country's two official languages.

One of my school teachers is from Malawi , and she says that English is widely spoken there I don't think French is that prevalent in Malawi.
