How do the 2009 Yankees compare to the 1927 Yankees?
Do we really know how good the 2009 group was? They destroyed to great teams, despite mistakes made by Giradi.
You didn't answer the question. All teams buy players.
If they bought more super players they'd be abl;e to afford more super payers
Anthony E. but what about Jeter and A-Rod?
oldballzack989's - btw welll said. My point is that we do not know how good the 2009 version of the yankees was. They didn't need the first half, and though I haven't analysed it I think their second half performance rivals the '27 yankees. And they destroyed 2 really fine teams in the angels and the phillies, when it counted, and everyone contributed except for cano, and he'll come through next post season.
oldballzack989's - Mattingly is also with the dodgers, and unforunately the 1963 version of the team did not suck. I know all the games were close. My greatest moment from that series was Mic just saying, "forget this" walking up and smacking a homer off koufax. Unfortuantely that was the only run they scored and lost 2 to 1. There was no one like mantle, who proved he could hit anyone. I never saw anyone hit koufax that way, by sheer will power, and clutch performance. If you get a chance to see it; I reccomend it. I wish someone would put it on you tube.
Murders row? Jeter, Texira, Arod, Cano? oh and don't forget Jorge Posada. and how could they give teh MVP to Mauer over Jeter? nope don't think so.
BTW I think torre's overrated, he's been outmanged by chalie manual 2 years in a row now. And I think the Yankees won in spite of him. I think he's above average, but he's had exceptional talent in NY and LA. He was outmanged, and I'm choking on these words, but by tony fancona as well. that and his inaility to get along with arod are why he is no longer in ny, think think we'ves seen his best, and it's time for him to go and give mattingly a shot with the dodgers. And then there was the book this year; not classy.

The 27 Yanks were much better. Murderer's row as the line up (Combs, Koenig,Ruth Gerhig, Meusel,Lazzeri, Dugan, Grabowski) scored about 975 runs on over 400 hits. This significantly more than the next team, the Detroit Tigers, who scored about 900 runs. The team also hit about 160 HR's and 100 triples. They lead baseball with a 307 average and a 489 slugging %. Top this off with leading the AL with 90sb. Take into account that at the time the Cathedral called Yankee Stadium was 490 to left center, 487 to center which was the biggest in baseball. There pitching was great also. They lead the AL in ERA, having the pitchers with the lowest era in baseball (More 2.28, Hoyt 2.64, Shocker 2.83) They gave up the least # of runs in baseball (about 110 less than Chicago who was 2nd) They also threw something like 11 shutouts. The 27 Yankees were the first team to go wire to wire in first place. They won 110 games (the 98 Yanks beat this but played more games) winnig the AL penant by 19. There are at least 6 HOFer's on the team.
There have been teams that have scored more runs and won more games (not many) but if you look at what the team did against their competition there has never been a more dominant team in baseball history. All you need to look at is the margin they beat the 2nd place teams in runs allowed (-110) and runs scored (+70). That is incredible. This is why they are considered the greatest team of all time. There is no stat that can refute this!
To all you Yankee haters out there go stick it. You are just jealous haters bc your team managment are a bunch of tight wads that take all the revenue sharing they receive and stick it in their pockets instead of reinvesting in the team. Yes the Yanks have a great advantage in the $'s they have to spend but until the small market teams can get their heads out of their a$$e$ and agree to implementing a salary min and not just a cap then I don't want to hear anyone complain! Even John Henry (owner of the Red Sox agrees with this point) Further there was no such thing as free agency until about 1969 and no ameture draft until some time in the 60's as well. . That means that 20 of the 27 WS titles the Yanks have won were due to superior scouting and ability to find the best talent. The Dodgers are bums (with the exception of Torre) and Boston Sucks! Go Yankees # 28 is on the way in 2010! Yankees team of the last century and team of the 1st decade of this century (2 WS titles, 4 WS appearences)

I would say the '27 Yankees were better, at least in "spirit" if that makes any sense. I'll explain: While obviously if the '27 Yankees were to play the '09 Yankees in a game they would get crushed--the difference of the game itself-- the advancement of conditioning, athleticism, etc. would win out. But the '27 Yankees, for their time, were better than the '09 Yankees for their time.
The biggest reason is that back in the day, the Yankees were just a class organization. They excelled and developed a winning tradition without grossly outspending the rest of baseball. Ruth, Gehrig, need I say more? The '09 Yankees were the best team in baseball last season but they by no means absolutely dominated. The '27 Yankees batted .307, slugged .489, scored 975 runs, and outscored their opponents by a record 376 runs. They won more games than the '09 club.
1927 Yankees. No contest.

between the 1927 and 2009 yankees,i might would desire to declare the 2009 group(although they have not gained something yet).....the 1998 group became into extra appropriate than them the two in my opinion however.

1927 Yankees were the greatest team in baseball history. They had the two greatest hitters, six players were inducted into the hall of fame, and they had more wins despite playing less games. 2009 Yankees were a good team, but not nearly as strong as their counterpants 82 years ago.

In a 7 game series I would have to give the edge to the '27 bombers. Of course the 1961 Yankees were the best Yankee team in history.

I think it's hard to compare because of how different times are now. They're were less teams in '27 and you didn't have the playoffs. The teams with the best record from each league played in the world series,no division or championship series. I think the playoffs make it harder to get to the world series. Anything can happen in October and that's why you see wild card teams make it to the world series a lot now.

the 2009 ny yankees are a bunch of cheaters the 1927 ny yankees were a legit power house that did not use roids or cash bribes to win anything

"My grandfather was a Brooklyn Dodgers' fan, and he told me that the '27 Yankees were boozers, and how much difference is there between that and steroids?"
Your Grandfather was a very jealous man, because his Dodgers didn't win a World Series until 1955. And if you don't know the difference between booze and steroids, you need to do some serious reseach. The 1927 Yankees, with the exception of Babe Ruth, were no more boozers than any other team.

While comparable, the '27 Yankees were in my opinion a much better team, because of two factors. They won 7 more games than the '09 Yankees, and had two of the greatest players in history on their team. Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. Those two almost single handedly made the Yankees champions that year. Having those two on your team is like having Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols together. Your team just can't help but win.
