How can I convince my mum to let me buy this?

Okay, so I got a fair bit of money for Christmas and I really, REALLY want to buy a DVD with it. However, it's a rare concert DVD (Oingo Boingo's Farewell concert) and it's around £85 from eBay (£126 from Amazon...ugh...) and, even though I'd be using my own money, my mum's against it. She wants me to keep my money for more important things (specifically clothing). I know this seems like a really expensive, frivolous purchase, but I want it so badly. How can I talk her around?

My dad understands it more, and he says I should definitely save up for it. My parents are divorced, though, so it's hard to get my dad to influence my mum about anything.

I want it so, so much. HELP!

Update:

No - I'd really rather own it.

Update 2:

Well, I've had a conversation and a good think. I'm considering leaving the DVD right now and asking for it when it comes to my birthday. I really wouldn't want any other big presents, and I'd just have a small party in the house. I could chip in for party food or whatever.

I feel it's a good compromise. I mean, I'd get something fun and not necessarily practical anyway. If I spend my money on the necessities now, and wait for the DVD, I'm compromising. I mean, I really want Farewell, but I'm trying my best to be mature about it.

I just looked up this DVD. I can't find it on Ebay UK but I found it on Amazon UK and it's a region 1 NTSC disk so it won't work on a regular unmodified UK DVD player. Also, since it's from a regular person, there's a chance that what you buy could turn out to be a burned DVD from a file that was downloaded from a p2p program. So I'm going to side with your mom.

If you can find this DVD locally, it's very rare so it's almost an investment because it will retain its value. If you buy it and don't want it a couple years later you could sell it for the same value or maybe more. But like I said, it's a region 1 DVD so you'll need a mod code for your DVD player or you'll have to play it on your computer.

What are more important things? Lack of clothing? Once I saved some money, I brought myself a real crossbow (for troops ), I know it's a little more powerful. And everyone made fun of me. But I practiced a little. Many year later. I survived in a camping(became a huge disater at last) only bcz I'm familiar with weapon. Others all got hurt. They wondered why, I said "I got well weapon training". Only you know what you really need. If you think that DVD really important to you. Get that one.

I personally agree with your mom. However, if you do buy a DVD from eBay, make sure it's the version that you want. I know things can be legitimately be cheaper on eBay, but be careful.
