How long can I let my UTI go untreated?

This morning i woke up and had pain while peeing and now I've started to pee blood. I've had UTI's before and have been okay but I really don't want something bad to happen. I don't have time to go to the doctor until Monday morning...so is it okay if I wait until Monday or should I try my best to go in sooner than that?

I would go in sooner than that. Mostly just for the fact that UTI's are a B**** to deal with (the pain and discomfort). For now though at least go to Walgreens or CVS and get some Uristat to help ease the pain. And drink TONS of water. I would recommend that you try to go to a walk in clinic for now (most are open regular hours during the day and some even after hours and on weekends). But you don't need an appointment or anything so it makes it really convenient if your doctor can't see you right away. I wouldn't leave it for too long though because when left untreated, UTI's can travel up into your bladder and get worse causing Bladder and/or even serious Kidney infections. So please don't wait too long. Try to go to a walk in TODAY.

See a doctor ASAP. You can NOT "kick out" a UTI by drinking cranberry juice and taking AZO! The ONLY way to cure a UTI is to take antibiotics prescribed by a doctor. Take the ENTIRE prescription. Even if symptoms go away, leftover bacteria can multiply and cause more problems. The fact that you have not gone to the doctor to get appropriate treatment for these infections in the past is a big concern, especially since you say your symptoms come and go. Not going to the doctor to get appropriate treatment could have serious consequences. Frequent or untreated UTI can cause kidney damage. See a doctor immediately!

You can skip the doc for now if you truly know it's a UTI from past experience, and you are willing to self-treat. Get to the grocery or drug store and purchase cranberry capsules - they contain a highly concentrated powdered version of cranberry juice. Don't bother buying the juice - the juice is a cocktail that's loaded with sugar and has very little actual juice.

Start with 3-4 capsules every 45-60 minutes, along with at least 6 ounces of water. When you wake up in the night to pee, take 3-4 more. Tomorrow when you wake up, you should notice a huge difference in how you feel. Tomorrow you can go back to 2-3 capsules about every 3 hours. Do that for a day or two.

From now on, take 2 capsules twice a day - these are cheap, so don't worry about the cost!

    Hope that helps!
