How to help a dog with anxiety?
Hello, we recently rescued a female boxer that is about 3 years old. We are not sure what she went through before we got her, but we know that she has serious separation anxiety problems. What can we do?
Thanks!

I have a 3 1/2 greyhound who has some of the same issues. We had to do some separation training, where you start by leaving for 15 minutes and work your way up from there. When we leave her, she always got a treat. We used a milk bone for the first few trips, then a kong for the longer ones. She only gets the kong when she is in her crate and home alone. We also leave the radio or TV on. It was difficult, but it is getting better. You can always call your vet and ask for their ideas, but the things I have suggested came from the adoption agency. I hope this helps. Good Luck and don't give up. It is all worth it!

well you can take her to your vet and ask them, or a behaviorist. One of my pups had thunder anxiety and they told me to give her melatonin. It is an over the counter natural supplement, it is good for their coat and many other things. I highly suggest not giving your dog anything before consulting your vet first though. You dont know how much your dog would require; and your dog might have health issues that could have a counter effect with the dog.
