Are the salt flats in Utah really as big as they look on Google Earth?

On Google Earth when I look in Utah, west and south west of the Great Salt Lake everything is white. Was it snowy when they took the satellite pictures or are the salt flats in Utah really that extensive?

Yes, they are huge. Fantastically fast cars set land speed records on the Bonneville Salt Flats, as they are called. The fastest car used a rocket engine to break the sound barrier. You need a lot of room to travel 750 MPH
