Just don't be nervous. Don't seem to desperate. And if he is an exchange student it is highly possible he will understand. Don't be nervous and don't wait too long because you never know what is going to happen in the future. Take a chance...risks are sometimes a good thing. And even if the risk went bad you still earned something new. Just stay positive.

Maybe you should just say "hello, my name is...." just leave out the bit about the candy cane. If hes an exchange student you'd just seem like you're being friendly by introducing yourself and then go from there. You'll probably either embarrass him or at the very least take him by surprise if you just come out right away and tell him you like him? Either way, good luck. It takes guts to do what you're gonna do...

i think you should make it more natural. make it seem more convenient for you to run into him. i dont mean like the cheesy bump into him and drop your books thing, i mean like approach him in the hall or something. or if you cross paths, then say something. but if he doesn't even know who you are, i think you should introduce yourself. then wait to tell him after you are friends. it will increase your chances. trust me.

Well, you should do whatever feels right.

If you expect something to happen with him, then let things flow naturally.
