Poll: My dad is watching a movie way, way too loudly?
It's 10:30. Should he turn it down and give me peace, or should I just grit my teeth and find some damn earplugs?
Bedtime? Who said anything about bedtime? It's simply annoying.

Obviously there are a number of things you can do here. Everyone has heard the saying, "Do unto others...." With this you can mirror his actions, at a different time of course. You can ask him to lower the volume. Which we all know doesnt work very well. You can lower it yourself. But, that will cause more problems. You can give him a call and try to talk to him (hopefully he didnt lower the volume which would help you in your argument of 'excessive volume'). Best move that would result in a smoothER aftermath would be the "Do unto others". UNLESS you crank the volume up when watching TV/movies/video games or listening to music.

You might want to threaten to make him come with u on a long exciting shopping trip the next day. It works like a charm for me.

He's old and deaf .... Can't you just get earplugs for the short while he may still live? That would be a kindness, maybe ....

Well, you could...
1) Ask him politely to turn the volume down
2) Try to drown out the noise with something else
3) Ignore it
4) Watch it with him.
Good luck. :]
