What was Spain and France's economic base in the american colionies?

    Spain's economic base was gold (and silver and slaves). So much gold was shipped to Spain that it caused galloping inflation and high food prices. France's base was mainly furs, bought from the natives and fur trappers and turned into hats and coats in Europe. France also had a thriving cod fishery, shipping back salted fish.
