How can I get into NYU?
So I am a Freshman in High school and I already know that I want to go to NYU (New York University) when I graduate. I know that my grades must be excellent, but I'm not sure about what extra curricular activities and clubs to join that would look good on my college application to get accepted into NYU. I really need help with this because I really want to go to NYU!!!!!!! -Natasha

Well coming from someone who got accepted into NYU you have to be an all around person. Meaning you have to be involved with many extra-curricular activities and stick with it.
*Join clubs. These are the clubs that I was in: National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and INK Well (helps students improve writing skills). This shows that you are highly involved with your school. And becoming a leader of one of the clubs doesn't hurt either.
*Volunteer. I also did a lot of volunteer work. Go out and get involved with your community. This shows that you are a dedicated individual willing to lend a hand to those in need of one.
*Grades. Keep your grades up when I graduated my GPA was a 3.8. Take Advance Placement courses this shows you like a challenge and you are willing to work hard.
*Scores. Try to make good SAT scores but remember SAT scores are not everything colleges do not dwell on this factor. I didn't get the scores that I hoped but I still got in. And you can always retake them too. 9 time out of 10 you will come out with a better score.
*Get involved with sports. Now I was never good at sports so I did not join any! But I was in marching band.
*Maybe get a part-time job.
And when you finally apply create a well-written, coherent essay that will knock the socks of the admission counselors.
And thank the high heavens that you are a Freshman so you have TIME. Spend it wisely and study for exams, keep up with assignments, make contacts with teachers (these will be the very people that you can go back to and ask them to write you a recommendation letter), stay out of trouble, don't procrastinate, don't get easily distracted, stay focused on your goal and You Will Prevail. I Promise You!
Now this doesn't mean you can't have any fun in your high school days just don't go over board with it. Because remember you will have much, much, much, much more fun when you get older. Trust me.
P.s Apply for early admissions you'll have a better chance of getting in. Hope this helps :)

Take violin. Colleges love the violin for some reason.
Actually, scratch that. Do something you love doing, and stick with it for all 4 years of high school. Get really good at what you do so that you get recognition. Colleges prefer that you do 1 or 2 things REALLY well instead of doing 5-6 after-school activities that you barely care about.
Example: I was in Girl Scouts since 2nd grade, stuck with it until I graduated high school, and got the Girl Scout Gold Award (equivalent to the Eagle Scout). I got into all the schools I wanted to because I was dedicated to my few extracurriculars. A girl in my class was a member of pretty much every club/organization at school, and she got into 2 out of 6 schools. Not a fun time for her.
