Which set of books do you think was selected by the Holy Spirit?
Protestants have fully accepted each and every one of the 27 books that the Holy Spirit inspired Catholics to select for the New Testament over 1,500 years ago..
The difference in the Old Testaments actually goes back to the time before and during Christ’s life. At this time, there was no official Jewish canon of scripture.
The Jews in Egypt translated their choices of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek in the second century before Christ. This translation of 46 books, called the Septuagint, had wide use in the Roman world because most Jews lived far from Palestine in Greek cities. Many of these Jews spoke only Greek.
The early Christian Church was born into this world. The Church, with its bilingual Jews and more and more Greek-speaking Gentiles, used the books of the Septuagint as its Bible. Remember the early Christians were just writing the documents what would become the New Testament.
After the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, with increasing persecution from the Romans and competition from the fledgling Christian Church, the Jewish leaders came together and declared its official canon of Scripture, eliminating seven books from the Septuagint.
The books removed were Tobit, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Wisdom (of Solomon), Sirach, and Baruch. Parts of existing books were also removed including Psalm 151 (from Psalms), parts of the Book of Esther, Susanna (from Daniel as chapter 13), and Bel and the Dragon (from Daniel as chapter 14).
The Christian Church filled with the Holy Spirit did not follow suit but kept all the books in the Septuagint. 46 + 27 = 73 Books total.
1500 years later, Protestants decided to keep the Catholic New Testament but change its Old Testament from the Catholic canon to the Jewish canon.
The books that were removed supported such things as
• Prayers for the dead (Tobit 12:12; 2 Maccabees 12:39-45)
• Purgatory (Wisdom 3:1-7)
• Intercession of saints in heaven (2 Maccabees 15:14)
• Intercession of angels (Tobit 12:12-15)
The books they dropped are sometimes called the Apocrypha.

What most people don't know about the King James version is that it was written in a way to separate it from any other literary work. People really did not talk that way at the time but King James wanted to make it special so ordered the language to be more "formal?" Even with that, the Catholic Bible is closer to the older versions of "Latin Vulgate" and the "Greek Septuagint".

You did not specify which Catholic translation. Originally they were translations of the same Canon. However, the Protestants decided to remove seven books of the Old Testament and they now use a condensed version of the Canon. BTW, they are called Books and the books have chapters. But the number of books in the Protestant Canon went from 73 in the Christian Canon to 66 in the truncated Protestant version.
All translations have errors from the original but the combination of archaic language and other errors the King James translation would not be among the most accurate. The most accurate Bible that is easy to read would be the RSV according to the original language. The reason we have scholars in biblical languages is to identify these errors. God bless!

Actually the King James version lifted many lengthy passages directly from the Catholic Douay-Rheims version. Also, the apocryphal works were included when the King James was first published.
If you are really looking for the most accurate translation your best bet would be the New Revised Standard Version.

There wouldn't be any Protestants if the Catholic Bible was- That's what the Reformation was all about in 1550 with Martin Luther and all those. If the Catholic's were concerned about the accuracy of God's Word why did they murder millions because they possessed, read, and proclaimed it? The Catholics think they own exclusive rights to God through Peter in Matt ch 16 and thats the problem. God can't be contained by the Catholics or anybody. The truth is Jesus Christ- His mom, Mary is dead, buried, and in a grave- not in heaven according to some Popes decree.
Source(s): John ch 14 The Catholic version is from the Alexrandrian text same as the NIV through the heathens Wescott and Hort. The KJV is from the Sirianic texts. See this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz-mc-VVlQk - 1 decade ago
I use the King James Version because I believe that it is the best English translation of the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts.
The extra chapters in the Catholic bible are called the Apocrypha. The Apocrypha contains books like "Bel and the Dragon", a story about a dragon who flies through the air healing people by defecating on them (sorry to be so blunt, but that's what it says, I've read it). Also in this story, God allows people to lie, which is directly against the Bible. Does this help you decide which is the Word of God?

The King James...God wrote this through people He inspired with the Holy Spirit. The Catholics wrote there own through their own thoughts and human wisdom and remember what God says about that..Who would you want to follow...God or Man? Proverbs 3:7, Col 2:23 1 Cor.1: 18,19 2 Cor. 2:6-10 and the last one I looked up for you I will write it out Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death" That is why all men should listen to God and the Holy Spirit He gives you...this leads to life. Happy New Year in your walk with Christ. Love in Him...missleslie

The Catholic Bible is MORE TRUE because it contains the COMPLETE CANON of Scripture.

No it means that the King James Version find combinations of two or three words in a given verse of the Catholic Bible and puts one word. Making it much easier to read and understand.

How could you even doubt for a minute that it took the inspiration of an Englishman hundreds of years removed from the events written about to fully compile and translate an accurate collection of writings about those events.
The British HAVE to be correct, their success at subduing and slaughtering other peoples for centuries indicates a sanctioning by the Holy Father!!!
