Why is there a stigma attached to curly/course hair?

I think that curly hair isn't really disliked as much as it used to be.

For a period in the 90's, guys with curly hair would either buzz it all off to really short stubble or just simply cut the thing really short as to take away the curly appearance.

But now it seems that they allow their natural hair texture be shown off, think Jonas Brothers.

I never noticed. I have long curly hair which is on the coarse side.

I've only ever been complimented and envied by other women who wish they had my curls.
