does anyone have this problem with there hermit crab?

I am on my third sponge in six weeks. The first one was a regular sponge and the last two are natural sea sponges. The crab keeps chewing them in half or to shreds. He chews them till there smaller than a dime. I do make sure they are wet enough,so the crab is not thirsty, and he isn't hungry . Any suggestions?

maybe hes bored, does he have anywhere to climb? also you should have more than one, they are actually social animals, its best to get one around the same size as he is....and have lots of different sized shells laying around for him...
