A psychologist has a doctorate in psychology and can work with psychological problems and do psych testing. Most clinical psychologists work with people to help them learn to solve their problems more successfully, feel better about themselves and have healthier relationships.
A psychiatrist has completed medical training, and gone on to do an internship in psychiatry. Psychiatrists prescribe medications that help with all kinds of psychological problems. They seldom do more than that.
So, bottom line, the psychologist with talk with you about what's going on and how to work with it, and the psychiatrist will figure out what medications you may need and help you with that part of the picture.
People often have both a psychologist and a psychiatrist, the two professionals coordinate their care of the client.
