How did the old Answers format look (from late 2006)?
I barely remember it, I'll need to see a photo to say "aahhh".
I miss the thumbs for the questions, and starring your own questions lol. And remember when there was a Top Contributor badge for Polls & Surveys? And we never used to have contacts and fans, we had to bookmark their profile lol.

Unless someone took a screenshot of it, there is no way to capture it again (I assume).
I've only been on for a year and a half... I remember a change a few months ago, and I remember hating it (minor format change on the questions pages), but only vaguely remember that.
So even if I were around here 3 years ago, I don't think I'd be much help on this question.
I'll see if there are any cached pages from back then, or old screenshots.
I remember they used to say "Closed To New Answers" at the top instead of "In Voting" or "Resolved" or whatever they have now when a question is no longer "open."

I remember the old "no photo" avatars...
A lot of interesting screenshots. I'm not going to post all of the links, but you can look at some of these (it's old and new mixed, so it's not the greatest link... I don't know why google allows a "Date range" search in the options menu for webpage searches, but not on image searches):

The biggest differences? Page width and location of categories. Categories used to be on the SIDES in the individual categories themselves, instead of at the top -- both LEFT side AND RIGHT side at one time or another, I think. At one time, the page(s) 'shrunk' to the skinny page format, which is now back to the wide page. Also, when you opened the page to answer a question, it used to be on the RIGHT, not the left. The 'flopping' of the page from left to right to left drove everybody nuts when it first happened.
The site has changed so much, in so many large and small ways, that I don't think even the staff can track all the changes!

Wow ! I wish I was already here in 2006! You were able to thumb a question up or down?! That was great. I'm only over a year here.
Clear skies!

Part of the problem is that even if you can find an older question from that time, it has been revamped to the new format
