Would you still follow God's commandments if there was no soul or afterlife?
Inspired by this question:

Just thought I'd get a little more specific.
What if the Bible or Koran stated explicitly that you have no soul, there is no afterlife, and God did not interfere in the physical world? Would you still follow God's commandments?

If "there is a God" and "there is no soul or afterlife", in the same frame? What do you mean by saying "a God" or "soul". If you believe there is no soul or afterlife, how can you still hold the believe of a God to be true? and if I don't believe there is a God, then should there be a question of God's commandments?

Which commandments are you referring to? If you are talking about old covenant commandments, trying to keep them did not result in any promise of eternal life anyway.
The other question reveals motivations of men. The bottom line is, there is no way a person can do anything for eternal life other than to believe God will give it to those who answer the call to salvation through faith. Those motivated by personal gain will, as a result of that mindset, refuse to believe it. Salvation goes to those who realize they cannot "bargain" with God for eternal life.

I follow the commands of my conscience. I have one. Some people don't.
My conscience tells me what is right and wrong. When I die, I will go back into the energy force that I was born from. " I " will be gone.
Some religions will tell you, this is the only way back to "God".
But for me, its only the plain and simple truth.

Yes as following the ten commandments leads to a better lifestyle. Though there would be much more evil in the world.

Erm, why would you?
Conscious beings are conditioned to behave in many ways through reward and punishment.

Well, I still wouldn't kill, steal, or cheat, whether gods want me to or not.
But you won't catch me honoring the Sabbath, that's for sure...

Still, not one religious person answered you with a straight forward answer. Its either Yes or NO. They seem compelled to preach about sin, heaven, hell, and avoid a simple yes or no answer, when you clearly stated, no heaven no hell no sin no judgment.

your asking "what if" questions that could go on about anything, I love God, and he un conditionally loves us all, that even goes out to those who do not believe in him.
