what do you do when your shoulder hurts?

my left ones hurts. I dont know how I hurt it. I think while doing a military press, but it didnt start hurting until two days after. Its been like 5 days since then, still hurts. i havent been able to work out cuz i was waiting for it to heal. but it doesnt seem like its going to. and im behind now, so unless you people can fix me im just gonna go at it again, hurt shoulder or not.

Update:

i just realized that theres an injuries section! wow. i posted this there, more fitting. already posted here tho so itll stay, why not. YA has everything. i should look around more.

Update 2:

No visible redness or inflammation

Its tender, light discomfort at all times, moderate discomfort sometimes and hurts upon extending. raising arm up and back hurts the worst

use a topical anti-inflammatory like Voltaren ... it could be a torn ligament or a strained/torn deltoid muscle or nerve compression .. so don't attempt to work out on it if you don't want to make it worse ..

I will need more info : is it red , swollen , tender , inflamed ?? does it hurt all the time or only when you move it ...... what kind of movement hurts most ... flexion or extension ???

Edit : I believe you strained the posterior part of your deltoid muscle .. use ice packs for 15 minutes at a time and anti-inflammatory Voltaren (topical or oral but I prefer oral and let someone rub it for you) ... take it easy for a while ... strained muscles take a while to stop hurting ... try to consult a doctor (this is always the best thing to do .. I can't really help you from over there since I didn't really see anything)

Its either you sleep in a wrong position or because of the military press, its very similar to when u dont undergo physical activity for some time and then when u go back it really hurts after 1-2 days, not immediately. I suggest u see a doc since the pain usually goes in 2 days not 5. You might have dislocated ure shoulder or it might be an overly strained tendon, so now you've got an area of ure body (shoulder) where there is a concentrated strain so you need to do stretching exercises in order to prevent the imbalance in strain. You'll be fine, just do the stretching.

Omggg i feel your pain! My neck has been hurting for wallah the past week and still is! I really need to goto the chiropractor so he can give it a hard workout!

Don't work out whilst its sore or you will do more damage! For the mean time try using heat pack and cold packs. Do 15-30 with heat then swap it to cold. And you should also make an appointment with a chiropractor

hope we both feel better soon!

Ah, something similar happened to me. I was going to be in a showcase with a ballroom dancing team, and we were doing a tribute to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." There was one step where we had to lift our shoulders as we stepped to the beat of the music, but I was jerking to hard and I ended up pulling muscles and hurting myself, so I had to be less rough and take it easy---besides, I had the rest of the routine to look strong-yet-zombie-like. Plus, the teacher had said that if it hurt to do the move, then just do the move subtly. Sacrificing one move over the entire dance seemed like a reasonable choice. I would suggest doing the rolling motion smoothly and slowly, don't try to be strong and forceful with it, just take it easy. Tell your dance instructor that it hurts to do the rolling motion and ask them what they would suggest what you could be doing wrong and if there's anything you could do to prevent the bruising. I would also suggest seeing a doctor about this type of thing and ask them what's wrong and what you could do to prevent the pain and bruising.

this is an exercize i did in physio for my shoulder its called the pendulum:

stand up. bend forward like a 90 degree angle and let your arm that hurts dangling - loose.

then start making some circles with your arm straight as if you are trying to draw an imaginary circle, start by making small circles, slowly, then make bigger ones.

it will work your articulation and warm it up gently, do it for 5 to 10 minutes once a day, everyday, it is a good warm up and healing exercize for painful shoulders.

Use one of those massaging creams that turn hot, and then ask someone to give you a good massage on your shoulder, the massaging will hurt, but will probably help afterwards.

you be thankful that only your shoulders hurt and not your butt or whatever else is wrong with you :)

    hopeeeeeeee i helped lol

okay srs, ... what caused it? it'd be easier to deal with if you know what it is. now from experience, those heat-rub thingies, (the stuff you rub on yourself, and it relieves pain) seem to work on every sort of muscle aches & strains, so try some of that if you can! if it doesn't cease hurting, i've got nothing really, please get it checked. feel better soon.
