what kid of line did I hit?

I was digging at an old house and hit a line about the size of a straw and it was silver and hollow. It wa only around 2 inches deep. Any idea what it is?

An old irrigation line maybe. That's the only thing I could think of that's not buried deeply. Of course, it could just be an empty pipe left so that electrical or cable could be sent through later. Is there perhaps a bomb shelter on the property? I'd follow the line to see where it goes.
