The latest generations (5th) have cameras. The 4th generations look much the same, except for the camera. 3rd generations were square in shape. 1st and 2nd generations were shaped much like the 4th and 5th, except with a smaller screen. The difference between the first and second generations is that the second generations had rounded edges.

    It's actually pretty easy.

The first generation nano is basically a rectangular box with sharper defined corners and comes in 1 or 2 GB sizes

The second gen nano has the same basic shape except the edges are more rounded and smother. Comes in 2 and 4 GB sizes

The third gen nano looks like a square box and is the first nano to feature video playback so its screen has a high resolution. It comes in 4 and 8 GB sizes

The fourth gen goes back to the first and second gen basic rectangular shape except it has a rectangular screen that you have to turn sideways to view in landscape

The fifth gen nano, which is the current and most up to date nano has the exact same feel and shape as the fourth gen except on the back their is a camera on the lower portion. it usually comes in 8 and 16 GB sizes.
