Why Harley Davidson' are better than Victory Motorcycles?

I am getting a little tired of seeing most of the posts that I mention Victory's as a better alternative of an american bike than Harley being disapproved of. So the question is simple, why, in your opinion, is a Harley Davidson motorcycle better than a comparable Victory motorcycle? I am putting the trolls to the test, and would like answers a little more thought out than Victory sucks Harley rules. I have owned both, but I am curious of other peoples opinions. I am espcially interested in those who have actually ridden both. I look forward to your responses.

Update:

to the baron: I have logged over 15k miles on various harleys including 2 that I owned. What wouldent I understand?

Update 2:

Polar bear, I am not sure where you got your percentages from, but they are wrong. Last I checked, almost half of my 04 harley fatboy was made in china and the vast majority of my 03 Vrod was a german design (porsche engine). The most consistant estimates of current models show that Harleys are about 43% american made and Victorys are 86% american made. The article you referenced, dated over a decade ago when victory only had one model, the v92, explained why polaris decided to enter the motorcycle market, not that they were copying a design from harleys and hondas. A cursory glance at any modern victory will show that they have no intention of copying an antique. Compare the v92 to the original harley if you are going to play that game. It took harley 85 years to design and produce a reliable bike, and it took victory 5 years to make a bulletproof one. Please check your facts before you post them.

Update 3:

You can see victorys smoking harleys left and right on drag strips on youtube. Hell, ive raced vrods on my bagger and won consistantly.

They aren't. When Victory first came out, I was sharing shop space with a Victory development mechanic. In the course of his job, he rode every cruiser on the market, and the Victory handled better than any of them except the Guzzi Californias. I am prepared to buy that, because every Harley I have ridden has been an evil-handling pig, incapable of keeping up a moderately brisk sightseeing pace on typical western Wisconsin coulee roads. Most of them dragged hard parts at moderate cornering speeds. The handling gap alone is enough to tip the scale in favor of Victory.

They are not better just different bikes. I am currently a 2013 Victory Hammer owner and a former 2006 Harley Street Rod owner. Both were and are great bikes. The Harley had a little more of a refined feel to it with the security key fob and a better instrument cluster (it was a 2006 too) and perhaps the fit and finish were slightly nicer which is not to say the Victory is poor in that department at all as it also is a very nice bike and I get many compliments on it. It just has a little more plastic and less chrome. Its justifiable though as the price is much more affordable than a comparable Harley Davidson. IMO that extra cost isn t worth it, you are basically paying for the name and a few extra chrome bits. The Victory has more power than a typical Harley, way more in fact. It is all about the aesthetics though. If you like the look and sound of a particular model of Harley or Victory that is the bike thats better for you. I happen to like Harley V rods and Breakouts as well as Victory Hammers and Jackpots. I would take any of them but in the end it came down to price and the fact that i test rode a Victory and loved it!

    Who Makes Victory Motorcycles

I always find those comments on how Harley holds value funny. Who really buys a Bike thinking about re selling it before they own it. I have owned a few Harleys and they are very nice and what I would call me too bikes. If you want something a little different but without sacrificing the big twin ideals then look at the Victory bikes. They are awesome bikes. I have the Victory Hammer 2007 with the 250 rear tire and its smoking hot. I bought it for $6500 Canadian or $4300 approx. US $ with 4000miles on it. This is the benefit of the Harley holding value thing as it allows us to buy a great bike for less.

    10yrs of R&D vs 100 yrs...#1.

#2 the RE-SELL value argument is actually covering the fact that Harleys are made out of higher quality materials than victory....HENCE victory's tend to be CHEAPER...they are made with CHEAPER parts (lots of plastic on my buddy's vegas vs all the steel and metal on my street bob).

#3 the idea that victory's are 'faster' and better handling comes down to rider ability, I knee drag on my street bob just fine. ALSO, YES STOCK vs STOCK, Victory's are FASTER...but the important and GOOD feeling on a cruiser is the low end torque, which harley ALWAYS has OWNED over all others.

#4 PARTS between HD, Kuryakn, S&S, etc you can make your harley into ANYTHING you want...not so much with victory.

#5 Original is always the best...I think what makes Harley better is that Harley doesn't have entire add campaigns dedicated to why you SHOULDN'T buy Victory....Victory can't stand on their product just being GOOD, they have to talk about how they are 'better' than HARLEY...I'm just saying....

I'll sum it up for you in a few simple words. I spent 34 years riding Harley's and switched to a Vic in 2007. A lot of wasted years under my belt but there wasn't a lot to choose from back then. 100% Victory or the NEW Indian (another Polaris company). Engineered to last, great ride, and for (approx.) every $1000 you spend on a Vic for horsepower upgrade you'll spend $5000 on a Harley for the same and probably still lose the race. And gentlemen, we are talking a Harley motor and not a S & S or other hybrid. Those aren't Harley's. Hope this helps. Nothing bad to say about either just my preference.

In the Fall of 2010 the marketing folks at Victory Motorcycles came up with a promotion entitled, The Victory Challenge. It was a somewhat novel method of attempting to convince potential purchasers of Harley Davidson motorcycles the benefit of various models in the Victory Lineup and allowed riders to ride a Victory model and what was considered to be its Harley Davidson equivalent back to back.

This might be very general but I prefer Victory because of the technology they put into the bikes and dollar for dollar I think I get a better bike. Thats just me. My opinion is that HD has survived by rider loyality for a long time just because many HD owner/riders are of the mindset it is the best--- period. And thats ok, we all like what we like. For style, price and reliability the Victory does it for me before the HD. I am happy to have a choice though, there are lots of nice bikes out there and something for everyone. If riding a HD makes you happy because that has become the symbol of what motorcycling should be then by all means ride one. Just be happy. I just think being open minded can open up a lot of possibilties that are favorable. I own a Dodge Truck, a Ford Thunderbird and a Chevrolet Corvette. Go figure. :)
