Woman prostrating herself before her husband?

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Prophet (SAW) said,

"If I were to order anyone to prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered a woman to prostrate herself before her husband". [At-Tirmidhi]

Can anyone explain this to me? A woman should prostrate herself before her husband, like seriously? Where is the equality in that? How come the obedience a woman has to have towards her husband in Islam always portrays that women are the inferior sex?

I totally believed that women have a lot of rights in Islam until I came to this hadith. I don't want to hurt my iman, so someone please clarify this!

Why can’t a man prostrate before his wife? (Since we are metaphorically speaking here).

Someone said above that a man is a woman’s provider which is 90% true in our society today. I know women who provide for their husbands though. Women who go out and earn money to keep a roof over their husband’s and children’s head. Women, who contribute half of their wages to pay the rent, do food shopping, etc. This is old fashioned saying of how a man alone is a provider of a woman is preposterous. Men are SUPPOSED to be providers of women; it doesn’t necessarily mean he is if he’s sitting at home looking after the house/children.

Islam also does not say a man has a higher status than a woman in any way. A woman is free to work, earn money, educate herself, etc just the same way a man is. Even in a marriage a man does not have to force his wife to do anything; otherwise it defeats the concept of equal rights.

Why should a woman prostrate herself (metaphorically) before her husband? Why should she idolize him in any way? It just seems as if men are all high and mighty and should be greatly admired for their duty towards a wife. A wife may be at home but she is still working hard, looking after her children, making the house a comfortable home for her husband, fulfilling her duties. Why shouldn’t she be congratulated highly for all her hard work? Even someone like Bibi Fatima had her husband return home from work and help her with the cleaning because there was so much to do!

WHY IS IT THAT WOMEN (NOT A SL*T) ARE BEING ATTACKED? WOMEN THIS WOMEN THAT! ALL GUYS EXPECT WOMEN TO DO THIS TO DO THAT! TO FULFIL THIS AND THAT BUT WHY DO PEOPLE NOT SAYING THE OTHER WAY ROUND? HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO RESTRAIN HIMSELF FROM COMMITTING SINS TO FANTASIZE ABOUT OTHER SL*TS BUT HIS WIFE! WHATEVER HIS WIFE DOES EXACTLY LIKE WHAT OTHER SL8TS DO, HE CONDEMS HIS WIFE AND SUPPORTS THE CHEAP SL8TS! WHICH SATAN ASKS HIM TO DO SINS AND THEN COVER IT BY USING RELIGION BLAH BLAH BLAH...(reason>infidelity) WIVES HAVE FEELINGS TOO TO BE OCCUPIED, NOT ONLY LOGICAL THINGS EG TO SATISFY THE MENS' DESIRE. I CAN SEE WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS, MANY SHALLOW BRAIN COMMUNITY LIKES TO POINT FINGERS AT WIVES.... MANY WOMEN(NOT SL*T)HAVE TRIED FULFILLING THE HOPES OF A HUSBAND. BEING KIND, GENEROUS, NOT ROUGH LIKE AN UGLY APE AND DRESSES HERSELF TO PLEASE OTHER PEOPLE'S HUSBANDS...OMG! THAT'S A SL*T IN ISLAM'S PERPECTIVE AND NO ONE CARES! BUT HAVE ANYONE EVER DEBATE ABOUT A HUSBANDS' 'SHOULD-BE' CHARACTER? THAT IF HE CANNOT CHANGE/DISLIKE THE ATTITUDE OF HIS WIFE, JUST DON'T BLAME HER 100% OUT OF EGO AND LUST FOR ANOTHER WOMAN. UNLESS IF SHE IS A RUFFIAN, EVIL HEART ( IN SOME COUNTRIES), SELFISH AND ALL VICES WHICH THEY TRY TO HIDE BY BEING 'MORALLY ACCEPTABLE'. WHICH VIEWS WOULD YOU CHOOSE? ALLAH'S BLESSINGS OR PEOPLE'S BLESSINGS...? WHAT ABOUT A HUSBANDS VIRTUES? SHOULDN'T THEY FOLLOW WHAT PROPHET PBUH DID? BE WISE, PATIENT, SMART TO HANDLE SITUATION, RATHER THAN OTHERWISE...JUST TRYING TO FIND EXCUSE TO SLEEP WITH A LOW SELF ESTEEM SL*T!! OMG! WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT GUYS NOWADAYS...! THEY ONLY KNOW HOW TO TALK, IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO CHANGE HIS WIFE, IT SHOWS THAT HE IS WEAK AND IMBECILE BY BEING PERMISSIVE AND EVENTUALLY WHEN CRISIS ARISE, THEY BLAME IT ALL ON WOMEN! CIAO...

    Assalaam Alaikum Warahamatullah Wabarakatahu

Firstly this hadith does by no means point out that women are inferior to men.. Where does it exactly state that?

This Hadith you have posted up shows the unique importance of the wife's obedience to her husband within her capacity and as long as he does not order her to disobey Allah.

    Allah, the Exalted, says:

"Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Therefore, the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband's absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g., their chastity and their husband's property).'' (An-Nisa 4:34)
