Simple Baseball poll. In your opinion Which World Series was the best of this decade?

For me even though my team lost that Series(Yankees) i have to say Yankees- Diamondbacks from 2001 was the best World Series played this decade.

2004 & 2003. Pudge was on the 03 WS and I couldn't have been happier for him. Great player and since he didn't win in Texas, I'm glad he won somewhere else. He's been a hard worker all his career. Seeing Boston win after so long was great. Dealing with all the bandwagoners and some of the fans after the repeat, not so much.

Scooter, for me it has to be a tie between the 2001 and 2003 Series. 2001 Series had all that added drama of (a) Kim's not so sparkling pitching in games 3, 4 and 5, (b) the post-9-11 pain in NYC, (c) the presence of the Yankees who had won in 98, 99 and 2000 and (d) the pitching of Johnson and Schilling. It came down to relief pitching in game 7 and Kim was nowhere to be found, which is why the D'Backs won. 2003 had those upstart Marlins (at least the D'Backs in 2001 had proven veterans Schilling and Johnson) who beat the perennial pennant winning Yankees with guys like Beckett out of nowhere.

As for the comment that 2004 was the best World Series because the Red Sox won for the first time in 86 years. I acknowledge the sentiment and to all New Englanders, the 2004 series has almost religious overtones and on that level it will always be the best World Series in the life time of any Red Sox fan privileged to have been alive on October 27, 2004, but it wasn't a competitive World Series. Thankfully.

2001 World Series when future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera blew a rare save and the Yankees ended up losing.

I wouldn't consider the 2004 World Series one of the best because it was a sweep. If the question was about the playoffs as a whole, it would probably be the 2004 Red Sox.

Easily 2004 Red Sox. The best part even though this isn't quite the world series, but when the red sox came back against the yankees down by 3 games. Yes, I am from Boston, but c'mon thats not the only reason that I think it was the best. It was also a great birthday present to me (i was born october 27)

Diamondbacks and Yankees in 2001. There was so much extra passion in that series because of 9/11. I have never and probably will never observe such an astonishing series.

I agree, I think 2001 was the best this decade. Both teams played their hearts out for the country and every game was incredibly exciting. I'd even go as far as to say it's one of the top 10 World Series of all time.

Definitely either 2001 (Dbacks/Yankees) or 2002 (Angels/Giants). Both went to 7 games and were competitive the whole series. All teams put in a great effort.

As much as 2002 still pains me as a Giants fan, I gotta say it was one helluva series.

EDIT: I just wanna say I really like Will's answer. Definitely sums up the 2002 WS right there.
