How do I cook a top round steak without a broiler?

I bought a large-ish top round (labeled as a london broil) tonight. It's currently marinating in a red wine marinade I made. I'd like to prepare it tomorrow night, but my resources at my boyfriend's house are limited - he doesn't have an iron skillet and the broiler pan for his stove is missing.

I'm a newbie to cooking meat - is there a way I can cook this in the oven on a normal baking pan? For how long & at what temp?

Maybe you could buy a good skillet to cook it in. It's much better if grilled outside, though, especially with a red wine marinade like you're doing. It will taste good, but really, grilling is the best way.

If he likes his meat rare or on the pink side, you'll need a higher heat than if he likes it well done. It's difficult to tell you for how long since I haven't a clue how 'big' the london broil is. It is not a tender cut. After cooking, cut it across the grain so it will cut easier in your plate.

Well, you can bake it, and it will probably be better than if you broiled it. The trick is to know when to stop. Set your oven at 325 convection or 350 normal, and check it periodically with a meat thermometer. Even better, buy a $15.00 constant monitor thermometer. When it gets to about 155 Fahrenheit, take it out and let it rest for about ten minutes. Should be perfect.
