My kitty's claw was ingrown...now it is an odd color at the base?

I noticed several months back that one of my cat's front claws had become ingrown. I took her to the vet and they told me that she had injured it somehow. To keep an eye on this claw in particular, it will have a tendency to grow that way from now on. Well, I just went to clip her claws tonight and in a short time her 5th nails on both feet had become ingrown and the base of the nail is now a reddish brown. I know that I need to take her to the vet, just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what is causing the discoloration.

Any abnormal discoloration or drastic change in color is a pretty good sign of infection...

you know what you have to do.

  • She has an infection. Take her to see the vet and inquire about getting these nails removed for good. It would cost you a little, but save you and your kitty from further pain. You'll save more in the long run.

It sounds like it might be bruising the pad at the base of the nail. Could that be it?
