iTunes home sharing trouble?

My brother and I are trying to share music on iTunes. He has his library open on his computer and I have mine opened on my computer. We both turned on the sharing using my account for both, his account for both, and one signed on to his account and one signed into mine. When the screen comes on and says that the sharing is on, the icon on the side menu disappears. How do you use the "home sharing" and what am I doing wrong?

this sounds like you have a firewall issue thats blocking the port that the itunes store uses.

it needs the following ports free:-

52,53,4555,5291,6356,6385 and if using sharing of libraries:- 3689 & 5353

if this is a firewall port issue..

    see http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24260?viewlocale=en_...

BOTH machines MUST be on the SAME local network (wired or WIFI) and BOTH authorised and logged into the same itunes store account for this to work properly too!!

well you can log out then log back in, then when it says "_______'s library" on one computer, click it, then you can select a song and press "import" remember, you have to be using THE SAME itunes account on both computers, meaning you have to both be logged into the same account, and you have to have both the computers authorized to play the songs of whoevers account you are using. you also have to be on the same internet.
