blankets, rugs, coolers, sheets........?

I have been looking at blankets, coolers, and sheets and I am a little confused on what to get.

Can you suggest a good:

- winter blanket for a horse that stays in a stall at night that is under or very close to $100 (for a TB)

- winter blanket for a horse that stays outside at night that is close to or under $100 (for a TB)

- cooler that is under $100 (for a TB)

- Is there any other blankets or sheets that I would need ( I live in IL and the temperatures range from 0 degrees farenheit to 95 degrees farenheit where I am)? I am probably not going to be showing much, so I wouldn't need a show sheet (I will get one later on if I end up showing more).

Thanks for the help!

I would get this blanket for the first two:

    cooler:

^^^ That is a great cooler. I have one and it works really well.

The first turnout blanket is heavyweight so it should be warm enough. But layering is always nice when it gets really cold. So you might also want a turnout sheet but it's totally up to you of course.

Perhaps something like this? ----> http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-240...

    Hope I helped!

I do not know if the cooler rug is what we call a sweat sheet in the UK which is used to put under a rug (blanket) after a bath or heavy exercise when a horse is wet!

You could do with an extra blanket - woolen or similar to put under the stable rug to add extra warmth on extremely cold nights. A thoroughbred and some other warm blood animals may feel the cold more than say a native pony, it depend a bit on wether he or she is clipped or has a very short, thin coat.

To tell if a horse is cold or not, feel the base of his or her ears. If they are cold, then the horse is cold, if warm, then he is warm enough. If he is cold his tail will be clamped down, he will be shivering and he will look tucked up, what coat he has will be fluffed out and staring (not flat against his body) and he will generally look miserable, and his ears will be cold. You might want to get a neck attachment and hood for the outdoor blanket.

A second outdoor blanket is a very good idea as they do not dry easily and you could alternate them to give one time to dry off. Also, when a horse has been blanketed you cannot then leave one off for the night while one is drying or in need of repair.

Since i live in Australia i cant really help with were to buy best your best bet is to go onto ebay and get all of these rugs. Its cheaps and the product are generally good.

Another recommened rug would be a combo cottin rug to go under the heavy rugs. Keeps horses really warm
