Origins of the surname Challman?

I want to find out the origins of the surname Challman and what country it originated from. Couldn't find any Info on google. Somebody help?

    Have you tried looking at the site www.surnamedb.com?

    It's pretty extensive giving you information about name origins and meanings and historical information about people who have held that name.

    I'm wondering if it might have been "Charman" originally, which is from Old French, meaning a carter.

    I've checked the Electoral Roll for the UK (80% complete) and can't find a single Challman listed.

    There are Challmans in the census from Sweden and Ireland. If you post the name of your great great grandparent here, someone will come along to look him or her up for you.

    the surname Challman could be an english surname, it translates as "Challs Servant"
