What prevented the terrorist from blowing up the detroit plane? Was is airport security?

pure luck that the guy couldn't ignite his explosives in his pants quick enough. And the surrounding passengers. They are heroes.

But could you imagine lighting your crotch on fire? YOUCH! I can think of better ways to go.

The explosive device was very low tech - the detonator failed to do more than ignite the chemicals in a slow burn sequence - this guy is already suffering for his crime by burnt thighs and private parts!!

There was a problem with the terrorist's detonator, and so the bomb didn't go off. Airport security didn't do anything.
