Yeah, I heard about it. He will be missed. I agree that a lot of today's young musicians don't know, much less, appreciate the contributions he made to the world of guitar and to the recording industry as a whole. Does anyone know/remember that it was Les who "invented" multi-track or what is sometimes called "sound on sound" recording? Some call it 'over-dubbing'. It was his idea to record himself playing a single-note melody line, then play it back while recording a harmony part at the same time. This way he could repeat the process over and over and "layer" as many parts (2,3,4 what ever). Even Mary Ford used it to "sing harmony" with herself. How many bands have used this technique in the recording studio and not given a damn as to where it came from? duh. I'd like to see some big haired acid rock punk try and come up with some similar invention, but - alas - I'm assuming they have an education that would permit such a thing.

Well it depends on what you want because,if you are into classics such as Guns and Roses or ACDC you should consider the Les Paul becasue it definetly gives you a more classical style, but if you are deep on Hard rock and metal don´t even think, go get your flying V, but if you like to play what ever plays in your itunes then get the ibanez jem555

he was the reason we have modern music, as far as im aware he pretty much made the first electric guitar. he definitely revolutionised how songs were recorded etc in studio.

however cmon man who cares if the drummer guy was s*it,awesome etc.

he was a human being who died at such a young age.

Now this is a man who truly deserves our attention. He totally revolutionized music.

  • Yes, a great loss also. I have a guitar he made back in 1963. Love that guitar.
