I hurt my knee, and within that knee injury they said there was a meniscus tear, meniscus tears can hurt on and off, but the main symptom is pain underneath and to the side of the knee cap, and the feeling that your knee is locking. But with all the symptoms you are describing it sounds like Patellofemoral Syndrome which often occurs in runners. was this a contact injury or did you just notice it was hurting? Chances are the doctor will just tell you to take a break off sports for a little bit. here is an article about the knee injury: http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/patelladisorders/a...

In the knee joint there's a fibre cord which connects best and down elements of the legs which in most cases reduce off for the period of emergency U flip or L flip and it offers heavy and insupportable discomfort and it's as sensible as doing small recreation through retaining two kg sandpack in your leg L view and slowly elevate and drop for 15 occasions which makes at ease

If you are going to see a general practice (family practice) type of doctor, you are wasting your time and money.
You need to see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in knee injuries.
Good luck.
