just installed cod WaW on my PC......had a direct X issue and now screen is black on start up?

Question

i just bought cod WaW a few hours ago for my PC and i am already having some problems....after the installation, it asked to reinstall direct X. i did, and i got father than just a error message when i started up multiplayer. now all that happens is the screen goes black and the main menu music plays in the background...help?? i didnt want to spend 50$ for nothing

system setup (its a crappy computer i know, just want to run WaW on lowest settings)-
Intel pentium 4 CPU 3.40 ghz 
3.39 ghz 1.50 GB RAM
card is a Radeon x300

Login to microsoft website and install the latest directx
i had similar issues, but post reinstalling directx (updated) from microsoft website it was fine
or try to reinstall the game and then reinstall directx

most game that can't play usually cause by graphic card.u need at least card ATI x1600 it avaiable on agp and pcie slot.
