Im knitting a scarf and im stuck!?

i'm on the first row and i can't get the slip knot on! i treat it like a regular stitch but it just doesn't go... idk what to do

Update:

this version of the question is better worded: 'm a BRAND NEW knitter trying to self-teach and I'm having issues on that very first row of stitches. Am I supposed to behave as though my beginning slip knot is a stitch and knit it in? Or pull it and leave it out? If I need to knit it in, then I'm having a problem with my slip knot not slipping and tightening the way it should. I get all kinds of slack in in the middle of my stitch.

Are you saying that the knot is too tight to knit? If so, it's not a slip knot (or it would tighten and loosen easily).

    1. Try sliding it down on the point of your needle to work it. That may give you sufficient slack.

    2. Just drop it. Then knit into the front and back of the first stitch on the next row to bring your stitch count to where it should be. Undo the slip knot and work it into the cast-on row (the "finishing" part of the first row).
