Call ASPCA Poison control (888) 426-4435
or call your local Emergency Vet (might try that first to avoid any fees from ASPCA)
they will instruct you on admistering hydrogen peroxide to get the dog to throw up
How small/large is this dog?
Size of dog relative to amount & type of chocolate is important
dark chocolate worse than milk chocolate
some dogs are more sensative than others
Here is text about chocolate from ASPCA website
Why is chocolate bad for dogs?
Chocolate can contain high amounts of fat and caffeine-like stimulants known as methylxanthines. If ingested in significant amounts, chocolate can potentially produce clinical effects in dogs ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to panting, excessive thirst and urination, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures and even death in severe cases.
Typically, the darker the chocolate, the higher the potential for clinical problems from methylxanthine poisoning. White chocolate has the lowest methylxanthine content, while baking chocolate contains the highest. As little as 20 ounces of milk chocolate—or only two ounces of baking chocolate—can cause serious problems in a 10-pound dog. While white chocolate may not have the same potential as darker forms to cause a methylxanthine poisoning, the high fat content of lighter chocolates could still lead to vomiting and diarrhea, as well as the possible development of life-threatening pancreatitis, an inflammatory condition of the pancreas.

I wish and pray that he lives. And all of it will depend on how a lot he ate in comparison to his weight. Dark chocolate is the worst in comparison to milk or at the same time chocolate. I have 2 12 lb puppies who simply bought again from the ER Vet on account that we discovered a torn field of darkish chocolate at the ground. They precipitated vomiting for each puppies on account that we did not understand who ate what. As it seems, the feminine (rescue) ate two.four oz of darkish chocolate at the same time the male (our youngster on the grounds that puppyhood) ate none. The feminine was once given liquid charcoal afterwards to soak up some thing was once left in her approach. This happened within the 2 hours we had been long past. They bought the chocolate by way of escaping from a (30") gated discipline and leaping at the kitchen desk. Thank goodness we rushed them to the vet. Both are excellent now. The feminine is within the crate subsequent to me in order that I can track her. I cannot look ahead to the forty one" tall gate to reach.

Here is a Chocolate Chart that shows how much and what kind of chocolate can make a dog sick or kill it. If it ate enough based on body weight to make the dog sick, give hydrogen peroxide to make the dog vomit.

You shouldn't worry about it, unless your dog is a small breed and he/she ate a fair amount of chocolate. For example, it takes two to three chocolate candy bars to poison a ten pound dog. Dark chocolate is less toxic to dogs than milk chocolate. My dog, a sixty pound shepherd mix, ate eight packages of smores poptarts and she's fine. If you feel worried, you can make your dog vomit. You can induce vomiting by forcing your dog to drink hydrogen peroxide mixed with water. Try to make him/her drink at least a teaspoon. Hope this information helps you and I hope your dog is ok. Good luck and God Bless. :)

It was probably not a large enough amount to harm your dog, but call the ASPCA hot line to ask a expert, 24 hour service.888-426-4435

This shouldn't do much. My dog last christmas got into my stocking and ate about 8 chocolate Santa's. The only thing that happened was he pooped them out. If a big amount didn't do much, a small amount would do about nothing. P.S. He ate foil and all.

your dog will be fine chocolate will kill your dog in large amounts but a small piece wont hurt it if it only happens once, just be more careful from now on.. lol chocolate isnt arsenic or anything just not healthy, unless it eats a whole lot

Simply watch her, as long as she doesn't start looking really sick you will be fine. Relax and breath, heck finish the chocolate.
