How many times should I wash my bi-racial son's hair a week?

My son is half african american and italian. I only wash my hair about twice a week and his father washes his everyday. I'm not sure how many times I should wash my son's since he is bi-racial. Should I treat it like my hair and wash it only a couple times a week or many times like his father? He's 14 months old by the way. Also, are there any good hair products for bi-racial children? Thanks

Update:

I currently use Method Baby's organic shampoo. I've been washing it twice a week and it just seems to be very dry all the time, especially in the back.

Well I'm biracial and have multiracial children so I might be able to help. First off, there really isn't a set "time" when you have to wash hair, certainly not a child's. Get a good natural and moisturizing sulfate free shampoo and you can wash his hair as often or as little as you want. I would wash his hair once every week (or twice like you do) and then co-wash in between the times that you didn't want to wash with shampoo. Co-washing is when you wash the hair with a moisturizing conditioner (you can use a leave-in conditioner too) and then rinse it out. This will leave the hair clean while also keeping it soft and moisturized without being dry. Bare Mineral Indulgence has natural hair products for biracial kids. They have a lot of natural and gentle baby shampoos and leave-in conditioners for biracial hair on their site (it's for biracial and black kids). I have a 2 year old son and use The Baby hair and body cream and the Baby Bumble bee hair and body wash and they've worked excellently.
