what happens when you buy a new car that you havent registered yet and you lost the title paper?

Update:

the car was purchased on craigslist and contact with the previous owner has long been lost

    Go back to where you purchased the new car and they have copies of everything. Your should have a ton of papers, contracts and other things like a payment plan or receipt for cash, etc.

    If you just turn up with a new car and no papers they will think you stole it.
