grooming for my dachshund?
I have a mini long haired dachshund. No matter how often I bathe her (which is about every two weeks) the hair around her ears always seems oily. Is this normal or is there some product I can use to make her hair less greasy? Oh and she is just 10 months old.
just had her at the vet for spay, no ear infections. It's like the wax from her ears makes her fur oily. Without bathing her every 3-4 days I was hoping for a product to help absorb.

Hi,
Dachshunds are a low-maintenance breed. They shed, but not excessively. Unless they've rolled in something that smells bad, they generally don't need to be bathed often and are free of doggie odor. Longhaired Dachshunds must be brushed regularly to prevent mats from forming. They need to be bathed more often than the Smooth Dachshund, and you must blow-dry them afterward for their coat to look good. Here's more info:

A shorthaired dachshund should never need a hair cut. The type of brush you will want is the type with rubber tips, which will help to remove the loose hair. Any kinds with the pointy metal teeth are for longer haired dogs and would only hurt yours. Baths should be get to a minimum for any dogs. Too much washing will irritate the skin and coat. If he goes and rolls in a pile of poop, then wash him.

You should bathe her 1 time a week and bathe her properly scrubbing the ears properly, and be sure to not allow the water to enter her ears.

Are you sure that's not from an ear infection? Sometimes when dogs get ear infections they get access wax or an oily substance comming from their ears.

You shouldn't bathe a dog more than once a month, and even that is too frequent. It washes away the oils in their coats which they need to keep their skin from drying out.

You should have her examined by a vet, there are prescription shampoos for dogs that have oily skin/fur.
