Is anti-smoking campaigns really just anti-capitalism like the commies who say there's climate change?

Limbaugh and Ann Coulter said that anti-smoking campaigns were nothing more than an attempt to stop America's greatest industry - cigarette manufacture - because they was examples of successful capitalism and the CEOs made a lot of money.

Rush and Ann is heavy smokers and know it don't do no harm to health. Also, the cigarette makers testified that cigs don't cause cancer and are non-additive. Private enterprise companies don't lie.

Lol why would anti anti-smoking campaigns be approved for the common television if they were anti capitalism? Cigarettes are money-making through taxes and therefore a very good asset to capitalism. Climate change may be a fact, but may also be a myth fueled by industry (capitalism), that we may never know beyond a "theory" either way. I for one disapprove of capitalism though I live with it here in America for lack of funds to move as ironic as that sounds, but in my opinion as a fellow smoker anti-smoking campaigns are to keep the people happy that something is being "done" about this smoking problem. Smokers will smoke no matter what and still bring in the tax dollars, given ads will have a marginal impact on statistics and non-smokers will not be satisfied until government controls smoking. It seems ads are perfect solution.

Hi, great points you have made about the anti-smoking commercials. I do agree that they too are also a business out to make money. However, it's not quite fair to compare tobacco campaigns to alcohol and gun campaigns. I believe that both alcohol and guns are things that people and the economy needs. Sure, alcohol isn't vital, but it's something that with moderation it couldn't possibly be as harmful as smoking. Alcohol is strong contributer to the economy as well. As for guns, it's a sport. People hunt. It's also a form of protection. Does smoking help the economy? Does it protect people? No, it mainly kills people. Do you know about the free sampling overseas in third world country? It's evil. They give out free samples to these poorly informed individuals, and hook them on cigarettes for life. Anyway, I hope I've enlightened you with a different perspective. Believe as you may.

  • Oh dear and this is what a person some think should run for president of the US, is he trying to be as daft as Sarah Palin or what. The reason there is the anti smoking campaign I would think is to save medical bills. Well that is what they say this side of the world. Has he not thought of the amount of money spent on health care due to smoking or is he really saying its good because it also makes healh care more expensive. Is he going to tell people it does no harm my word his really daft I can say I cannot run as fast as i could when I didn't smoke so of course it affects your health.

Go to a cancer ward and ask the people with oxygen tanks and tracheotomies if smoking poses a risk to your health. That's crap, the reason they became such a successful company is because cigarettes ARE ADDICTING. On top of all that tons of companies have become successful by selling aids to help you quit smoking.

I suggest you do your research.

Ask someone with lung cancer. Tobacco companies convinced the FDA to not make it a requirement for them to list the inredients that they use to flavor the tobacco. So they can use any substance that they want from Benzene to sawdust and people smoke it.

Private companies don't lie ? I've seen documentaries where coal company executives insisted coal dust is beneficial to the lungs, when faced with miners that had fatal black-lung disease. As for smoking, I've never met a smoker who is happy that they began the habit.

They THINK it doesn't "do no harm to health". Anyone who has ever smoked more then once and who isn't having their pockets lined with bills from the tobacco companies KNOW it harms health.

You just can't imitate such stupidity.

I'm not a fan of either Limbaugh or Coulter but do you have a shred of evidence that they ever made these comments or is this a typical smear campaign?

Yeah, that must be it. CEO's lying just to make a profit? And we all know Rush Windbag wouldn't lie, would he? In spite of lung cancer, COPD, asthma, allergies, smog, damage to property & the environment---no, cigarettes are great for you & climate change is all in your head.
