The length of your menstrual cycle can vary by a few days each month, which is quite normal in women who are not taking oral contraceptives. Oral contraceptives provide 21 days of pills that contain synthetic hormones that regulate ovulation and the menstrual cycle, and 7 days of inert or hormone-free pills. During the week when you are taking the inert pills, you should expect your period.

Also, a Gynecologist can help you avoid getting your period for a vacation or special occasion if you ask him/her for help. Typically this involves taking two packs of birth control pills without an interruption in the packs. Meaning, you would finish 3 weeks of the pills that contain hormones and instead of taking the inert pills and getting your period, you would immediately start a new pack of birth control pills. This is best done under the supervision of a doctor. Also you might have some breakthrough bleeding during the second pack, but this is not serious. Talk with your doctor and see what he or she recommends. Good luck.

It could be changing if you're stressed out or dieting.
