Is my dog really smart?
I have a 3 month old male border collie. His name is Finn. I know that borde collies are the smartest breeds, but I want to know if my puppy is acting like a standard border collie, or smarter. These are the tricks he knows: come, sit, paw, jump, lay down, off and almost roll over. Also, he listens to this commands right away. He doesn't jump up much and doesn't jump on other dogs or run onto the road. Remember, he is only 3 months!

Hi,
Well, you can never know for sure if your dog is smarter than the others in its breed. There are many dogs that can perform many tricks at a very early age. Finn is probably a very responsive, intelligent dog and that's great. But like I said before, you can never tell. Keep up the good work !

Sounds like a regular old smart puppy! I have two dogs- one is smarter than the other, but is terrible at tricks because he seems to think they're beneath him- he'd rather go around opening doors and windows or framing the other on for getting into the trash. The other, a chocolate lab who's not quite a quick, is MUCH better at tricks because it doesn't occur to him to do otherwise- he just wants to make me happy!
Good Job training your border pup!

yeah thats pretty good for dog standards. When i got my first border collie she was only 8 wks old and did not even need to be housetrained, she just knew what she should and shouldn't do. She just died last year at 15 yrs and never once had an accident or had to be corrected in her whole life, swear, best dogs ever.

Any dog can learn them at that age. No dogs are 'smarter' or not, it just depends on how much attention and training the pup gets, so he's doing well :)

Some breeds are better behaved than others, some dogs are more disciplined. Is your dog really smart?, well we don't know what goes on inside their little minds but i would say hes pretty obedient more than smart. :)
