Canon Rebel XSi vs. Pentax k-x?
I need help deciding between the Canon Rebel XSi vs. Pentax k-x for my first DSLR. Both seem pretty awesome to me but I can't decide. I was in love with the XSi until I learned about the k-x and it's video capability. Help me decide? Thanks
XSi has a video camera? Is it in HD?
Side note: I would be shooting images and videos of my horses, so I need something fast.

Like everything both have pros and cons. Here are reviews for both of them along with features and specs and sample images. Maybe this would help you more than the biased opinions of particular users. I think pretty much everyone will recommend the camera they use but that doesnt make it the right camera for you.
US automakers were once the leader in their markets too. Where are they now? Thats not to say Pentax will ever be a leader but being a leader in and of itself means nothing.
Speaking in terms of sales unit volume Rolex isnt a leader in the watch industry. Does that mean Rolex watches are garbage? No. Rolex has a very specific target market which doesnt include the general public.
Often being a leader by popularity is due more to a manufacturers advertising and promotional methods rather than the products superior "quality"

You need to try shooting video with an SLR before you get sold on that feature alone. Compared to a real video camera, DSLR video leaves a lot to be desired. On the other hand, if you are an independent film maker, recording audio seperately and your willing/able to do the require post-production work, DSLRs are a great tool for shooting 35mm films on an 8mm budget.
As far as still photography goes, Pentax is a great brand and they offer a lot of camera for the money. Their approach to noise reduction tends to leave more noise in the resulting photos but, they also retain more detail as a result. Which gives you better pictures is largely a matter of personal taste. That said, the K-X has a higher ISO range than the Rebel XSi and this may be as important or more important than whether or not the camera shoots video. It is also worth pointing out that the Rebel XSi has been around for almost two years and is probably very close to being discontinued/replaced. The newest Rebel, the T1i however was just introduced this year and like the K-x, offers HD video albeit at a higher price than the K-x.
If video is important and you can't afford the Rebel T1i, the Pentax K-x is a great choice. Regardless of which camera you choose, remember that you are buying into a proprietary lens system as much as you are buying a camera. This means you will want your next DSLR to be compatible with the lenses you use with this camera. I don't expect Pentax is going away anytime soon so I wouldn't worry about not being able to find lenses for it.

Of those two I would go for Pentax. Some people live in a delusional world thinking Canon is the Alpha Camera company.

i am a rebel myself so i will be bias and say go for the xsi. mine has been working great for me. what types of pictures will you be taking mostly? sports? landscape? portraits? nighttime? you will find it necessary to buy at least an additional telephoto lens; the canon has a great one for just under 200$. you can take videos with your rebel. then the auto stabilization feature in the camera and the lens is also a big catch.
come on now ... lets go rebel (with a cause).

I am intrigued by the Pentax K-x, below are some links that I have found that have only increased my interest. One is a review on dpreview someone else has already posted, remember these reviews provide sample images created by the reviewed cameras. The youtube link will take you to video footage done with the camera and while your on youtube you can easily find other posted samples and some camera reviews done on video of the K-x. The last is a link to a discussion forum at photo.net and you will need to scroll down some and you will see some very nice black & white images done with the K-x Pentax and shot at high ISOs (1250, 6400, 10,000).
Don't buy into the whole one brand is better than another. There are many good camera out there then there are people who know how to use them.
I am a Nikon person and I am thinking about getting the Pentax K-x for an extra camera.
Hope my ramble was of some help. : )

Check out dpreview.com's review. K-x produces the best image quality out of all entry-level cameras--especially at high ISO settings which would definitely be useful for shooting fast moving targets without motion blur.

There are 3 world leaders in this technology - Canon, Nikon and Fuji in that order. Note please that Pentax is not one of them. Nuff said?
