Labor concern? Please help.?

I know how you feel, I was terrified so I knew that I wanted epidural. which you will have connected to you the whole time so every time I felt a contraction I pump it! After you get very dilated you can't use it anymore but it's in your system already so it helps so much trust me!! I was in labor for 24 hours and felt pain ( a little) before the epidural and right when the baby head came out but it wasn't honestly that bad at all..My baby was almost 10 pounds and I would do it all over again..

Its really normal to be feeling scared at this time...you have never done this before, and even mothers who are having their second or even third babies sometimes get a little fearful. My water broke after being in early labor all day and night the day before. It felt like period/constipation cramps in my stomach, that seemed to only get stronger as time went on...however mine seemed to feel better once I laid down (but some women's don't improve, everyone is different). I fell asleep, then woke up around 7 am and my water broke..once it broke, I didn't have a pain one..it was crazy. Five hours went by without even having one contraction, so I went ahead and went to the hospital, so that they could start pitocin, because things weren't progressing on their own. Once I was in active labor, the pains started again like they had been the night before, and they got worse and worse..I went for 22 hours, then had to have a c-section, because I wasn't dilating fast enough..I only got to 4.5 centimeters. I went in dilated to 2, and they told me that I could have the epidural whenever I wanted, now or later..it didn't matter. I chose to wait a while, because I had heard it was better to wait until you were like 4-5 centimeters, because sometimes its slows the process. So I waited until I was 4, but I could have gotten it as soon as I came in if I had wanted. I know at the hospital that I delivered there was no rule or anything saying you had to be so far to get an epidural..unless you came in dilated to far like to 8-9, then you may not have time to get one, but everywhere is different. I don't really have an answer for your question but just know that you are not the only one out there feeling this way. I am almost 31 weeks pregnant and started getting things together and ready, and while excited I am scared to death. Just think to yourself about how wonderful it will be once the baby gets here, and I started to think if it was sooo bad and painful there would be no children born in the world. your water does not always break first. actually it is much more common for the water not to break until farther into labor.

the doctor had to break my water, he waited until after the epidural to do so.

labor is painful. once your contractions are either 5 minutes apart,you can't take the pain,or your water breaks that is when you go to the hospital. Do not wait until your water breaks.
