Placement is key. <<remember that for any piercing.

There is this nice place in your nose on the septum , commonly called the "sweet spot" - feel inside your nose for it. Its below that hard part, but a little above the part that connects to the outer part of your nose. right there, in that thinner/smoother part - is where you want to pierce it.

REMEMBER TO PIERCE STRAIGHT THROUGH AS EVEN AS POSSIBLE.

You don't want a crooked septum piercing.

Now if you want to do it more properly - you should use a piercing needle (14G - i'm not exactly sure, but i think 14G or 16G is good), which you can find at any piercing parlor or even in some hottopic stores (ive heard). Clamps, in my opinion, aren't necessary in septum piercing if you have a steady hand. There is a worse, less clean, less safe, and more stupid alternative, and ill just tell you that too ;D

    >>>so you could get a sewing needle (preferred) or a safety pin (not as great :\ ). Use some rubbing alcohol to sterilize it, and burn it with a candle-lighter (just to be safe). Make sure the needle has cooled before you pierce it. <<< thats the alternative for a needle, but please - use a real piercing needle, for your safety/and ease (small sewing needles make it HELL to put in the jewelry).

clean the septum, and WASH YOUR HANDS. It's a good idea to use gloves (:

Take the needle, pull down that part of your nose so the septum is easier to see and you can see where the needle will go. Do a little practice on the outside of your nose, running the needle in a straight line.

    Then do it. XD

For me, it didn't hurt at all - but i have high pain tolerance. I've heard people say it hurts like a motherfxcker - but we're all different. Try to do it slow so you dont screw up and do it crooked.

Once the needle is through and in your nose fully (have the whole needle halfway through) - leave it there, take a quick breath. Then get your jewelry (it can be a horseshoe/ring/etc.) - and here's the tricky part. You need to quickly, and i mean QUICKLY (soopermannfassstttt. i had to repierce it twice - owch - because the hole closed up and i couldnt find it because i was too slow! ) , slip the needle out and put the jewelry in. then VOILAAA. youhasaseptummmpiercinng :D

then you just need to clean it twice a day with H2Ocean, Wound Wash Saline, or any sea salt solution. People say they use rubbing alcohol, even though piercers say not to, but ive never tried it. id stick with the professional advice though, and not use it - bc they say its too harsh.

ONLY do this if you can stand the pain and are willing to risk INFECTION.

Self-piercings have a higher rate of infection. thats why you NEED TO FREAKIN STERILIZE AND CLEAN EVERYTHING. if your piercing starts to ooze this yellow or dark green discharge - its infected. if there is this white discharge, its okay - its normal.

but if it DOES get infected, you should see a doctor!

there ARE consequences if you DONT treat the infection (moreso then screwing up the piercing).

to sum it up for the materials:

14G or 16G (you might wanta check that, im not exactly sure what gauge) sterilized piercing needle

MAKE SURE THAT IT SPECIFICALLY SAYS A HOLLOW NEEDLE (slip the jewelry in the hole and just pull through, pretty self-explanatory there)

Clamps (optional) to pull the septum and make it easier to see where you're going

    Gloves !

Rubbing Alcohol - sterilize and shizz

    Mirror

H2Ocean, Wound Wash Saline, or Sea Salt Soak (to clean the piercing, clean 2 times a day)

14G or 16G(depending on what size needle u used) horse-shoe/ring/tusks, just look up "septum rings" and see which kind you like

    thats about it.

soo, yepp have funn :3 haha

  • to start i would use a 12 gauge hollow needle disposable foreceps and gloves with a fairly big 14 gauge bcr style ring.. www.tattooartsupplies.com has a great article and video on the subject of piercing your own septum .. make sure its straight .. if its not at first let it heal for a few weeks then kinda lightly pull it the direction you want it to rotate and itll eventually straighten out .. IMO

you need a 14g hollow needle

and then whatever ring you want to put in it

to clean it you use salt water and just rub it around the hole and like get it on the ring and move the ring in and out so it can get inside as well.

and when you pierce it you have to look online to see where the major veins are so you don't hurt yourself

and you're supposed to pierce it in the thin cartilage if you pull the middle of your nose down and stick your finger in there its the thin cartilage thats where you do it

I really don't recommend doing it at home but since you're not changing your mind there you go just make sure you know where all the major veins are!

Prepare to screw your nose up by doing this piercing unprofessionally at home...

You think buying proper needles and jewelery over the internet is gonna be cheaper than just going to the shop and getting it done? If you don't have a ride, walk. If you don't have ID, go to the DMV and apply for one.

    DON'T DO IT AT HOME!!!

It is a tricky piercing to do and you won't be able to get properly. Trust me, I got one.

Put your nose up against a window sill, stick a nail in it and drive it home with a hammer or a rock.
