fight of the year boxing?
The following contains my argument to Kevin Iole, a Yahoo Sports boxing writer, over some of his poor choices for fight of the year.
Kevin, your pick for fight of the year, Williams vs Martinez, has but one true competitor, Agbeko vs Perez, a fight that you chose to exclude from your list of nominees for fight of the year.
Both the champion, Joseph Agbeko, and the challenger, Yohnny Perez, went toe-to-toe in a slug fest for the ages. Although both fighters are primarily one dimensional sluggers, the public was not unsatisfied with their lack of skills due to the highly entertaining styles that they embraced throughout their bout.
Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez treated "hardcore" boxing fans to a "fight fans fight" on the night of December 5, 2009. Both fighters showed relentless work rates and were forced to adapt to one and other's styles. As Martinez seemed to be neutralizing Williams work rate, Paul made a comeback from the middle rounds on but was never able to find his rhythm and fought through twelve rounds to earn a majority decision.
The average boxing fan observes the sport in a very casual manner, often being more appreciative of two sluggers going toe-to-toe in the center of the ring than two well rounded boxers with tremendous work rates thinking and attempting to adapt to one and others style throughout the course of twelve rounds due to the entertaining styles that brawlers and sluggers commonly exercise.
A casual boxing fan would likely pick Agbeko vs Perez as fight of the year due to the highly entertaining toe-to-toe style that the fighters embraced in their bout while a "hardcore" boxing fan would pick Williams vs Martinez as fight of the year due to the combination of technicality and ferocity that the fighters exercised throughout the course of 12 rounds.

My opinion of the fight of the year is not based on brawl alone, but something more broad, and that's style, consistency, adaptation, fluctuation phase, pressure, intensity, proven hype, and most of all heart. The fight that dazzled me most is none other than Sergio Martinez VS Paul Williams.
It was back and forth with the phase being based as the moment of sublime heart and prowess ability to give the boxing fans a surprising performance from both fighter. We know Paul Williams is going to be himself, with those myriad punches until the end the end of the round, but I've never imagined Sergio Martinez to be on the same level against one of the most feared boxer in the world, Paul Williams.
Bottom line, Paul Williams VS Sergio Martinez, see you in 2010 for a rematch [of course, with a conversant judge].

Floyd Mayweather could be combating Manny Pacquiao and Saul Alvarez ,yet i think of the two fights he will have in 2013 would be Robert Guerrero and the winner between Alverez and Trout could 5th in the past retiring.

To me best fight of the year was JMM against Juan Diaz. Classic match between the slugger against the counter puncher in a non stop action packed fight. JJM lit him up in the end tho.

I can't really agree with you because people who pick fight of the year are normally and should be hardcore fans. Its entertaining to watch two guys slug it out, but it makes you wonder, "Do these guys think about strategy at all?". If they were to slug it out, add some strategy, and adapt, it would be better.

I agree with my co-blogger. It is JMM vs. Diaz. Honorable mention is JMM vs. Casamayor. Conclusion hanged on the balance in both fights and it ended fittingly with explosive shows of counter-punching power by JMM. Both Pac bouts in 2009 were so boringly one-sided!
