Laptop battery issue...need help!!!?
I have an older IBM Thinkpad T30 or 40 (i think). My daughter tripped over the cord while it was plugged in to charge. Now, the laptop won't charge or run off of the power from the cord while plugged in. Is there a loose connection now? Can it be tightened easily? Could this be an expensive repair that might not be wise to invest in? Thanks in advance!!!

Either the connector on the laptop took a jolt, and is broken (expensive to fix), or the wire in the charging cord got broken (easier to replace charger).
See if you can get someone to measure the voltage on the charger plug, to see if it is still sending a voltage. If so, then it's more likely the laptop jack that is broken. Many older laptops require almost complete dis-assembly to get to the power jack on the motherboard - about a 2 hour job for most competent techs...

Common situation! In Most cases unless your technically inclined todo it yourself you will need to goto a repair shop. The power jack itself has probably seperated from the motherboard, simply re-soldering these connections should solve the problem assuming nothing shorted during the inital accident. should not be expensive either get several quotes before choosing someone for the repairs dont let them charge you 300 dollars for something that takes 1/2 hour 45 minutes to fix, unless you know someone personally u can take it to that you trust! Oh and definately check the jack on the power supply some have a tiny pin in the center of the connector such as Macintosh if thats damaged replace the power supply, and check the voltage to make sure u have power! If ur supply does have this tiny pin however "Dont" try to test it yourself.. Ive gotten way to many clients shorting out a good power supply trying to test them!
