what are some good reasons why cats make good pets?

i really want a cat because both my parents work and i'm home by myself a lot but my dad says that i'm going to get bored with it in a week, but he knows that's not true because i don't get bored with things easy. he also says that they piss all over the place and are very hard to train and are stupid. what are some reason why cats make good pets and/or what can do to convince him to get me one?

Update:

I, ________ ________ _______, promise that if I get a cat I will change its litter every day, feed and water without being told, give it love, train it, play with it for an hour each day, and make sure that she doesn’t affect your life style in any which way. Also I will clean the house to earn an allowance so I can pay for her, so you don’t have to pay for her costs. If you feel as if I’m being irresponsible with her or not doing as I said I would in this contract then I will find her a steady home where she can live the rest her life, with people who will take care of her and love her.

Update 2:

do you think that contract will help my parents to see how much i really want a cat and how i'll take care of it?

    I LOVE YOUR CONTRACT IDEA.

If every pet owner took that oath before getting a pet, what a great world this would be for pets.

To convince your dad to get you a cat:

Cats can live for 20 years. During that time they need daily care, even when you don't have extra money in your account and even on days when you would rather not be responsible for the cat. You have to pay for food, litter, vaccines, spay or neuter, vet exams, and sometimes emergencies. For example, your cat may swallow something dangerous or dash out the door and get hit by a car.

Cats usually use their litter box, but litter box issues are the most common behavior problems with cats. Your cat may one of the ones that is challenging to train. While you are working on it your cat may pee on the most absorbent and expensive surfaces/items in your home. Cats usually will use a cat tree or scratching post, but they may also scratch furniture and carpet. You will need to prevent the cat from damaging your stuff while you train it to scratch appropriate things.

Cats sometimes meow a lot, even at night. They like to be up high, so sometimes they jump up on furniture and can knock stuff off and break it. Your cat may play rough and bite or scratch. You will have to train it to play in a friendly way.

If you tell your dad that you are aware of these things, you are up to the challenge and will take your responsibility seriously (and you mean what you say)... Cats can be great pets and I hope your dad lets you adopt one.

I really think your dad needs to do more research. In my opinion, my kitten was the best choice of my life. He is a very good boy and loves following me around. He is very good about using the litter box and when I leave home he is content sleeping the day away until I get home. When I do get home, he greets me at the door, and with cute little meows instead of that infernal barking that dogs do. He sits on my lap and purrs away as I watch TV and he loves doing tricks for his treats. He can sit, lie down, and beg too! And he is only 8 months old. Cats are very smart animals and can learn more than just their name. I can guarantee that you will never be bored with a cat/kitten.

Males may mark their territory if they aren't neutered, but my boy came neutered as is. (Shelter kitten) Females do not spray, but there is the chance of them getting pregnant if they aren't a strict indoor cat. I still recommend getting whichever gender you get spayed/neutered, mainly because there are so many cats that need homes. My boy came from a shelter and he is a doll, so I recommend going to your local shelter to pick out the kitty for you, whether it be a kitten or an older cat. Either way, they are by far the best pets.

There have also been studies that they can lower chances of depression, which is why my mother took me to get m kitten in the first place. I was depressed, but he made doing everything better.

Source(s): Lots of information has been locked into my brain about cats, and now with Rook (my kitten) I have found almost all of it is true.
  • Cats can be very good companions. I think your dad got mixed up with cats and dogs, dogs pee all over the place, can be hard to train, but aren't stupid. Also, if you change the litter every once and a while, feed it, and water it, your cat will be fine. But, you might have to clean up a few accidents.

Here are the supplies you will need:

    Cat Food

    Water

    Food and Water Bowls

    Litter Box/Tray

    Litter

    Love

    Hands

    Time

    Toys

    Bed

Also, you will need to play with it sometimes. A way to convince your dad to get you a cat is: Tell him that you will refill the water and food bowls when they need to be and change the litter. If that doesn't work, you need to find a way to prove that your responsible. I would recommend you get a bombay, very cute, nice, cuddly and loving cats. Or, you could go to a shelter and get the one that makes your heart melt, thats how I got my little girl.

    Good Luck!

    Hope I helped!

    1. poo is not large

    2. small pets

    3. cuddles with you

    4. rub against your legs ( means they love you )

    5. use smaller toys than dogs

    6. don't drink as much water / eat as much dog

By the way, you should show your responsibility by taking care of your other pets ( if you have any ) or help do chores without being asked every time. I really hoped that helped you because for every cat you get is one cat saved from death.

getting a cat is a great idea. i have two cats currently. the good thing about cats is that they are easy and loving. my cats actually are not played with much but they don't mind at all. so when you are not in a "cat" mood they understand they will just go nap.when i got my cats i placed them in the litter box right when we got home. never have they gone to do their business anywhere else. dogs may need to be potty trained but a cat's training is very little to none. because you don't need to spend all you time with that issue, you can spend more time playing with a cat. they love to be played with. if ou don't feel like playing with mouse toys ad such they won't mind just a good petting.

you can give them love while doing homework or just watching tv. i love to play with my cat. my kitty is one of my best friends so i hope you get to have a cat too!

I currently have two Bengal cats (a cross between domestic cats and an Asian Leopard Cat) they are very intelligent, can learn to play fetch, (both of mine play fetch), are very loving and affectionate and are very beautiful. They come in an array of colors from brown spotted, snow spotted, silver spotted, brown rosettes (rosettes are what the spots look like on an African Leopard), snow rosettes, silver rosettes, and then there are also marbles that have swirled colors to their coats and they come in brown, snow and silver. If you go to this website and look at the CONTACT US page you can see my two bengals. www.magicalsummit.com

Whether or not you get a Bengal or any other breed of cat I would suggest getting a male cat as they are easier to be around (females tend to be more tempermental and mean) and the males will NOT pee anywhere other than in their litter box as long as you NEUTER them at 6 months old. Cats are NOT like dogs, you don't have to train them to use the litterbox like you have to train a dog to potty outside, cats have a natural instinct to use the litterbox and will do so one there own...therefore 99% of the kittens you get are already litter trained and you don't have to worry about it. Cats believe it or not are actually VERY INTELLIGENT. I would get a catch scratch post and some catnip while the kitten is young and then the kitten will learn at a very early age that he is to scratch the post only and not furniture.(You can also clip their claws just like you would clip a dogs toenails - just be aware of the quik and not cut it and use a normal pair of toenail clippers - like you would use) If you do this at a young age they will get used to this as well as this is what I do with my Bengals and have done so for the last 4 years without any problems.

Altogether, I prefer cats to dogs ANY DAY because when winter rolls around and even summer days that you want to go out with friends or do something you don't have to worry about taking the dog out or anything. I got a water dish and a cat food feeder and cleaned the litterbox and I have left my cats alone in my apartment for 3 days before and came home with NO PROBLEMS what-so-ever! And don't feel TOO BAD about leaving them because cats DO like their time alone as well - unlike dogs that are PACK animals.

    HOPE THIS HELPED!

I've always loved dogs and, like my husband, had wanted a new puppy for about three years - couldn't get one for ages due to breeder difficulty so got our very first kitten, a Burmese, instead. Now, I can't imagine not having our little kitten in my life, she's gorgeous, very playful, but not as much work as what a puppy is. She sleeps curled up next to me, on the coach, bed etc. She loves being near her family, but not too overwhelmingly so. I would highly recommend getting a cat.

Needless to say, the kitten is considered my pet, and the puppy I'd wanted for so long is considered my husband's! :D

f you get your cat fixed, it shouldn't piss anywhere. I never had to litter train ANY of my cats, though some do have to. Even the ones I raised by hand went on their own when due time.

You never have to walk a cat

Cats are amusing even when you don't play with them

they don't care if you're gone all day... they just sleep while you're gone

most are happy to see you when you come home

they are much cleaner and less stinky than dogs

    less needy too

That's not a contract. And you're just a silly kid playing around. You will get bored with the cat because teenagers get bored with everything.

Cats are not stupid. A lot of cats will surprise you with their intelligence, and training is easy with patience. Also, cats do not piss everywhere unless they are severely stressed or have an infection. Cats are fun, cuddly, independent, and curious animals. I never get bored of mine :) Show them how responsible you are and show them that you are capable of taking care of the cat, even his medical issues (feeding antibiotics if sick, etc.)
