I'm trying to figure out what this fruit is called. It's the size of a small plum, tastes tart and sweet, and contains an astringent, white latex sap. I found some pictures:

What you have in the pictures is a fruit of Carissa macrocarpa .

It is a species of Carrisa. Some of the species of this genus grow in India. They turn black on ripening and a very rich source of vitamin C. There are some garden ornamental varieties of this genus fruits of which are used for making pickles as they remain sour even after ripening. They have very beautiful colours ranging from red, pink and yellow shades with little white colour.
