Home theater help please?

I am trying to hook up my PS3 to my 5 disc DVD player/Surround sound system. I do not have component cables for the PS3, just a HDMI cable. How to i get the audio to come out of my surround sound speakers and the video to come out of TV? My TV only supports 1 HDMI plug. If it helps, on the back of the DVD player/receiver has video out(yellow white red), component out(green blue red), HDMI out and digital audio TV(optical)

Would i have to run HDMI plug from PS3 to TV then optical cable from TV to receiver? Any help will be appreciated

on the back of your reciever, the video out red white and yellow should be only yellow and red and white is audio input. Your tv should have audio outbut on the back, usually it is red and white. All you need to do is connect the ps3 up to the tv using HDMI and use the audio out on the tv and connect the audio out of the tv to the receiver and that should do it. You do need to change the input of the receiver to the red and white, it should be tv or vcr or aux2.

That is usually best. I take it that your TV DOES have optical out. Since the PS3 plays all formats of DVDs, you wouldn't have to worry about there being only one input on the TV. If you want, later you can find HDMI switchers (multiple source-one output) for any additional components you may want to hook up to the TV using HDMI.

    Hope this helps.
