Where is the best place to get instructions for learning to knit?
I can crochet anything. But this year I have decided to learn to knit. Any suggestions on the best sites, books, etc. to get me on the path to being a knitter? Would taking a class be the better way to go? I don't want to get frustrated before I even start so please give me advise that will hold my interest.

Personally I see no reason for you to go to a class or buy a book or take one out of the library. Here is a list of sites for you to check out to learn how to knit. I would make three suggestions. Find one that is a video that you like, one that is pictures that you like and put them into your favorites for further reference. Then keep me in mind if you don't understand something and e-mail me. With knitting there are only two stitches you will have to learn but there are variations on them that you will find in the patterns.

I learned to knit from library books. They have a lot of really good ones in the craft and hobby section. Keep at at it and don't give up . just make a small square to start of the garter st which is plain knitting. When you finish that then try knit 2 purl 2 which is used on cuffs and is called ribbing.

It's pretty easy, but takes time. I would say for simple just go to a knitting/craft store and get a book, but if you want stuff like corded knits, and the other stitches, go to a class.

You should check out http://www.needinstructions.com./ They offer instructions, manuals and how to's on just about everything. I think they may have your instruction on how to knit. I know if they don't have it you can request it. It's worth giving it a shot.

I learned to knit from library books. There are so many beautifully illustrated books and patterns that you need to see what is best suited to you. They also have videos with instructions.
It will take a fair bit of practice on how to hold the needles and getting the tension right so don't try to do more than making a sample piece.
If you can take a class or know someone who knits, it would be a great advantage to getting started.
Have fun with it and if you get frustrated, try again later but don't give up.

If they have classes in your area the by all means, sign up for them. If they don't though, go to http://www.knittinghelp.com/ there are videos there to teach you. Very clearly shot and explained in both English and Continental styles.
